Rescuing An Endangered Bumble Bee

This video is about Rescuing An Endangered Bumble Bee

fixed1t Wildlife Conservation

A few days ago, i heard that Bees had been put onto the endangered species list.  Gardening wise, i have noticed a decline in the number of bees this year with few of our bee boxes and holes masonry occupied.

This May Sound Trivial?   But Without Bees We Are Doomed

So when I saw one in trouble i gave it back The Fruits Of Its Labours

Action Photos Finches On A Norfolk Bird Table

The Annex we rented for our Norfolk Vacation had a nice Garden and early in the morning for around 30 minutes the bird table was invaded by Blue Finches and Great Finches.

They were constantly darting backwards and forwards to the table trying to avoid hanging around due possibly to the visiting French Cat.

Luckily I managed to take a number of photos in sports mode using my eBay purchased Nikon 5100 DSLR.

I think they've come out quite well.

To view the photographs at full size double-click on one of them.

3D SBS My Dog Skippy In The Dog House

This video is about 3D SBS My Dog Skippy In The Dog House

After creating mayhem I had to muzzle skippy whilst I got on with the job at hand of putting out the recycling and trash.  But despite the muzzle he manage some cunning stealing and eating,  But he couldn't dispose of the evidence.  Its in 3D because that was the camera to hand when I was laughing at his cunning and skills.

Action Photos Swifts or Swallows Nesting On Cromer Cliffs Norfolk

As we wandered along Cromer Beach in Norfolk I was amazed to see what appeared to be Swifts or Swallows nesting in burrowed holes high up on the cliffs, so I spent some time trying to photograph flying around their holes using sports mode on my Nikon 5100 DSLR.  I pointed and clicked with little success.

Then I had the idea of timing by counting how long it took for the bird to fly into the hole, do its feeding and emerge, and surprisingly it turned out to be pretty regular, both leaving and then returning.

Not being an ornithologist I guessed that the feeding process has to be regular, who knows.

When I trawled through the hundreds of shots I took over a glass of wine I was really pleased to see that I had a small number of nice action shots.  Here they are:

My Flying Greyhound Lurchers

Having purchased my first 2nd user digital SLR and Nikon 5100 I decided I'd give it a go shooting Bree and Skippy running at full pelt around a Norfolk Beach.

Lurchers are fast, very fast, and both our rescue dogs are Lurchers and are a cross between Saluki and Greyhound.  They are sleek and swift.

Lurchers like Greyhounds are on of the few dogs that spends more time flying through the air, with all feet off the ground when running, than with its feet on the ground.  They are so fast that they are even able to achieve this feat on wet sandy beeches as you can see in the picture below.

I'm really thankful that the Nikon 5100 was fast enough to capture this even with the 55-200 lens.  Do any of you notice something different about Skippy in the background?  If you have already seen Skippy please don't comment as I'm interested in viewers perceptions of what they think they see to what they can actually see.

Flying Lurchers All Feet Are Off The Sand
I also made a video on my iPhone as they were flying around the beach chasing each other.

I hope you like the pictures, please comment and I'll post some more pictures.

Three Legged Greyhound Lurcher Racing On A Walcott Beach

We took Skippy and Bree to Norfolk UK with us for a run on the Walcott beach, as you can see they absolutely loved it, and despite having 3 legs Skippy was not deterred in chasing down Bree.  It's amazing how quick he goes and that losing the back leg has had little effect on his agility and speed.  #fixed1tRESCUEdogs

Three Legged Lurcher Skippy Gaining Weight And Muscle Nicely

I think I'd forgotten how thin and weak Skippy was when he first came to us as Prince.

He'd been in foster care for over 6 months with a pack of larger Greyhounds and although he'd been well cared for he wasn't getting enough exercise and stimulation for him to grow.

Its been quite a struggle to find the right combination of food for him that will not upset his stomach and bowels but will allow him to put on weight.  Here is a picture of him shortly after we invited him into our home:

Now his ribs are barely visible and he seems to have grown into his boney face.

As for his relationship with Bree they are inseparable:

Perhaps his rippling front legs and shoulders that's doing it ;-)

And such a great little runner:

Disabled Hound Skippy Racing 4 Legged Bree

We took our 3 legged rescue dog 'Skippy' on a local rescue hound Play Group exercise walk with Bree and lots of other Greyhounds, Lurchers and Wippets. One of the owners has a Paddock so before the walk we let Bree and Skippy in to go mad, they are so good together and so fast. To think if he hadn't have been rescued they'd have put him down down to his awful injuries, but he's a very lucky and happy dog.

Bree Recovering Well

Bree is recovering well from her collision with the corner of our paving stone step near the garage, the hole, op and the stitches.  Skippy our tripod rescue Lurcher with his missing back leg and she are forever chasing each other around and wrestling ( it's a greyhound, saluki and lurcher thing). They also like necking each other and tripping each other up by grabbing each other's legs. Unfortunately the speed they can move and maneouvor at, means it can result in injury if they get caught at the wrong time i.e. Going up steps.

When they aren't chasing around sounding like an attacking ferocious dogs but not leaving a mark, they spend their time wrapping themselves around each other and us.  In fact their play fighting reminds me of the Saturday Wrestling Matches that used to be on UK TV on Saturdays when I was a kid, all play acting bluster and aggression with the winner decided in advance ;-)

latest antics

No sooner have I posted this video but he's been at it again. What gets me is his cunning, tonight I was about the let our other rescue dog Bree out for last night ablutions, when he barged past, so I let him out, being new we've had the occasional accident. He came back quickly and I took Bree out, she is more lady like and takes her time to select a spot. When I brought Bree in I heard a rustling, and found he'd pushed aside a heavy trolley to get to a counter and stole a packet of Quaver chips of a high shelf, torn the packet open and was eating them. If I didn't know better I'd say he planned it ;-) or am I anthropomorphising things LOL #fixed1tRESCUEdogs

My Recue Dog Skippy And The Mysterious Back Pack Raid

This video is about My Recue Dog Skippy And The Mysterious Back Pack Raid

Skippy is a LURCHER a Greyhound/Saluki Cross around 11 months old, he was mistreated and thrown out of a moving vehicle and hit by a car. This resulted in his Left Back Leg being amputated.  We met him on his first ever walk and decided to take him home for a trial.  We love him and he likes sparing and racing with our other 3 year old rescue lurcher Bree.  He is into everything, but as I discovered you can't leave him near even hidden food for a second.

He is sweet and really cheeky as you'll see.

Newly Adopted Rescue Hound Having A Celebration Of His Own

Its official, we've adopted another rescue dog I've called Skippy, he was formally known as Prince, but as he has 3 legs and bounces along happily like Skippy The Kangaroo I've renamed him. So just like the mischievous Skippy, you won't believe how he chose to celebrate the event LOL

Even Inspector Jacques Clouseau Could Solve My Dog Bree's Latest Crime

Even Inspector Jacques Clouseau Could Solve My Dog Bree's Latest Crime

Whilst I was out watching and videoing Debbies participation in the Rock Chorus Choir charity concert, Bree decided to do some sniffing around for food and treats. This is a common condition for Rescue Dogs, but she not too good at hiding the evidence of her antics.  But we love her anyway.

Two Year Old Oliver Takes The Rap For My Dog

This video is about Two Year Old Oliver Takes The Rap For My Dog

They say a boys best friend is his dog and for Oliver my dog Bree  dotes on him.  I hadn't realised quite how strong the bond of loyalty was until today, when Oliver made the conscious decision to take the Rap for one of Bree's misdemeanours.

Toddler Oliver Befriending My Dog Bree With Snacks

This video is about Toddler Oliver Befriending My Dog Bree With Potato Snacks

As the relationship has grown between Olli and Bree that are becoming increasingly inseparable, this is reinforced by Olli whose current catch phrase is "Share Malcolm" sharing his food and snacks with Bree. Surprisingly for a dog, Bree is not at all possessive about her food and you can stand over her, touch it, take it away and she makes no fuss or complaint.  But she will steal is back surreptitiously at the first opportunity.
